‘Anticipating technologies – for a safe and humane future’, Geneva, 7–8 May 2026

Interested media representatives are invited to attend the first day of the conference ‘Anticipating technologies – for a safe and humane future’ at the CERN Science Gateway and a tour of CERN on Thursday 7 May 2026.

Media representatives attending the first day of the conference must be accredited. The second day of the conference is not open to the public.

Venue

The conference will take place in Geneva at the CERN Science Gateway (Thursday 7 May 2026) and at the International Committee of the Red Cross (Friday 8 May 2026).

Sound recordings for audiovisual media can be made directly in the conference room.

There will be no livestream of the conference.

Programme

The conference will examine how scientific and technological advances are changing security and cooperation in Europe. It will focus in particular on anticipating new technologies (e.g. AI and quantum computing) and their potential with regard to conflict avoidance and trust-building.

While the media are invited to attend the first day of the conference at CERN, the second day at the ICRC will not be open to the public.

7 May

9–9.45am: Official opening of the conference at the CERN Science Gateway

11.30am–12.45pm: Panel discussion: Anticipating water and energy security in the digital age

  • Visit of the SM18 test facility; introduction to the High-Luminosity LHC

3.15–4.30pm: Panel discussion: Artificial intelligence and conflict prevention

4.45–5.15pm: Closing session

Accreditation

Accreditation is required to attend the first day of the conference. Interested media representatives must apply for this by midday on Monday 4 May at the latest via this link . Please note that you must complete a registration process if logging in for the first time (see instructions).

Badge collection and information desk

An accreditation badge is required to access the conference rooms.

Registered media representatives can pick up their personal accreditation badge from the badge and information desk at the main entrance of the CERN Science Gateway.

The desk is open from 7.30am to 5.30pm on Thursday 7 May.

A valid ID card or passport is required to collect your badge.

To avoid difficulties in accessing the conference areas, you should wear your accreditation badge throughout the conference and ensure it is always visible. For security reasons, participants may be asked to show proof of identity (passport or ID card) at any time.

The badge and information desk also serves as a lost property office.

Images of the conference will be published free of charge on the FDFA's Flickr account shortly after the event. These may be used for non-commercial purposes provided the copyright (FDFA) is acknowledged.

Workstations

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide workstations for media representatives.

Working language

The working language of the conference is English. No interpretation service will be provided.

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi will be available in all public areas of the conference venue.

Power

The standard voltage in Switzerland is 220 V. Type C (two-pin) and type J (three-pin) plugs are used. Adapters will not be provided at the conference venue. Please bring a travel adapter if required.
